Lynn Family Foundation Empowers Potential Through Mentorship and Scholarships

The Lynn Family Foundation helps individuals recognize and achieve their potential in their personal and professional lives through mentorship, scholarships, and life-changing experiences. Founded by former NFL athlete and current Washington Commanders Run Game Coordinator and Running Backs coach Anthony Lynn, along with his wife, Stacey, a former news anchor, the foundation developed from years of quiet, personal giving back to the community and has since become a structured, sports-connected vehicle for elevating the stories and potential of the people it serves.

This post draws from PPF's case study to highlight how the foundation came to life, the impact it has made so far, and how nonprofit fiscal sponsorship through PPF has supported its growth every step of the way.

Project Inspiration: From Personal Giving to Structured Impact

Long before there was a foundation, there was simply a family with a habit of showing up for their community. For years, Anthony and Stacey Lynn gave back quietly - no press releases, no formal programs, just a couple who believed in helping people move forward. Anthony's own path, from playing in the NFL to coaching running backs for the Washington Commanders, gave the family a front-row seat to how mentorship and opportunity can change the trajectory of a life. Stacey's background as a news anchor brought a complementary instinct: an appreciation for stories and the people behind them.

As their giving grew, so did a realization. The Lynns were reaching people, but without the infrastructure to take it further, or to make sure the people they helped were properly seen and celebrated. They saw an opportunity to do more: to elevate their beneficiaries, tell their stories with intention, and expand their reach beyond whatever a single family's checkbook and calendar could sustain on their own. Creating a foundation was the natural next step, transforming years of personal philanthropy into a structured, far-reaching initiative built to outlast any single event or gift.

Mission and Vision: Helping People Reach Their Potential

At the center of the Lynn Family Foundation is a simple but expansive idea: everyone has potential, and most people just need the right support to reach it. The foundation is dedicated to helping individuals recognize and achieve that potential, both personally and professionally, through three main levers: mentorship, scholarships, and life-changing experiences.

That mission is intentionally broad. Mentorship offers guidance from people who have walked a similar path. Scholarships remove financial barriers that might otherwise close a door before it ever opens. Experiences, whether a tournament, community event, or introduction to a new network, give people access to moments that can shift how they see their own future.

Underlying all of it is a belief in empowerment over charity: giving people the tools to pursue their own goals, rather than dictating what success should look like for them. By connecting recipients with guidance, education, and opportunity, the foundation continues to strengthen the communities it touches and cultivate the next generation of leaders within them.

Choosing PPF as a Fiscal Sponsor

Launching a foundation is one thing; running one well, year after year, is another. When the Lynns began searching for a partner to help manage the operational side of their philanthropic mission, they were looking for more than someone who could keep the books. They wanted a partner who understood the particular world they were operating in, one shaped by the rhythms of professional sports, athlete schedules, and a donor base with its own unique culture.

PPF stood out on both counts: a comprehensive support structure paired with genuine, first-hand familiarity with the sports community. That combination mattered to the Lynns. With PPF managing the administrative and financial infrastructure while providing compliance oversight, the Lynn Family Foundation has been able to keep its own attention where it belongs: on building meaningful programs, connecting directly with beneficiaries, and forming the kinds of partnerships that amplify impact rather than just administering it.

As Chief Operating Officer Danielle Lynn put it, PPF provided the full package of support the foundation needed while staying well immersed in the sports world the Lynns are connected to; a distinction that made all the difference in choosing a sponsor who could speak the foundation's language from day one.

Launching the Mission

Turning a shared vision into a working organization took deliberate groundwork. The Lynns began by hiring a marketing firm to establish a brand identity and the foundational tools a new organization needs to introduce itself to the world: a logo, a voice, a way of telling its story. From that foundation, the organization steadily expanded, building out programs and a donor network in tandem, and prioritizing relationships over rapid scale.

That patience was critical, because the early days weren't without real challenges. As a grant-based foundation, the team had to figure out where to start and how to build a donor base that could sustain the mission long-term. There was a specific risk they wanted to avoid: leaning too heavily on sports-affiliated networks, which can shift as rosters, coaching staffs, and team affiliations change over time. A foundation built entirely on the strength of one NFL career would always be vulnerable to that career's next chapter.

So instead, the team focused on something more durable—persistence and genuine community engagement. Event by event, relationship by relationship, the foundation grew a support system rooted in shared values rather than proximity to the game alone. That values-aligned base is what has allowed the Lynn Family Foundation to keep growing steadily, independent of any single season or team.

Project Impact: A Deepening Partnership With Hugs Café

If there's one relationship that captures what the Lynn Family Foundation is trying to build, it's the partnership with Hugs Café. Hugs Café is a nonprofit that provides meaningful employment for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It's the kind of organization whose mission mirrors the foundation's own belief in unlocking potential by giving people the structure and opportunity to do meaningful work, and to be seen for it.

The Lynn Family Foundation has granted more than $75,000 to Hugs Café since the partnership began, but the numbers only tell part of the story. Over the years, the relationship has evolved on a deeper level. What started as a grant relationship has grown into something more permanent and personal. Hugs Café's new facility will feature the Lynn Family Locker Room, a physical space that will carry the foundation's name and honor its support for years to come.

Some of the most meaningful outcomes, though, haven't come from the grants at all. They've come from watching the foundation's own supporters take initiative on their own. Donors who first learned about organizations like Hugs Café through a foundation event have gone on to become independent advocates and supporters in their own right - writing their own checks, telling their friends, and showing up on their own. That's the ripple effect the foundation was built to create: not just direct giving, but a widening circle of awareness and generosity that the foundation itself no longer has to drive.

Working With PPF: More Than Financial Management

The foundation's relationship with PPF has deepened in much the same way its donor relationships have. In the earliest days, the Lynn Family Foundation relied primarily on its marketing partners for day-to-day operational support. But as the organization matured and its ambitions grew, PPF's role became increasingly central to how the foundation functions.

That shift wasn't just administrative—it was strategic. PPF project managers have contributed event planning ideas, offered guidance on organizational strategy, and provided the ongoing administrative and compliance support that keeps a growing nonprofit on solid footing. It's the combination of financial expertise and proactive project management, working in tandem, that has let the Lynn Family Foundation grow with a level of confidence and consistency that would be difficult to build alone.

"PPF takes away the accounting burden and provides support along the way, offering more than just financial management," Danielle Lynn said. "Their partnership has been invaluable."

Looking to the Future

With a values-driven donor base established and a flagship partnership like Hugs Café already bearing fruit, the Lynn Family Foundation is looking toward a next chapter defined by formalization and growth. Its stated goals include:

  • Launching a formalized grant program to better support a growing number of beneficiaries
  • Hosting another charity golf tournament to raise funds and awareness for partner organizations
  • Expanding its network of donors and deepening community engagement

None of that growth is intended to happen in isolation. The foundation envisions PPF continuing to play an integral role in that next phase - assisting with event and compliance support, offering strategic fundraising insight, and maintaining the financial efficiency that ensures as much of every dollar raised as possible flows directly to the people the foundation exists to serve.

Advice for Changemakers: Ask More Questions

For other founders navigating fiscal sponsorship for the first time, Danielle Lynn's advice comes from firsthand experience and a bit of hindsight. Her guidance is simple: ask more questions.

"I used to assume PPF mainly provided accounting support, but they offer so much more," she said. "The more you engage with them, the more value you unlock."

It's a candid admission that even organizations deep into a sponsorship relationship can underestimate what their partner is capable of offering. For the Lynn Family Foundation, curiosity turned out to be the key that unlocked strategic guidance, event support, and operational partnership well beyond what a purely financial relationship would have provided. It's a reminder that fiscal sponsorship, done well, isn't a transaction; it's a genuine partnership, and one where asking more tends to be rewarded with more.
